Let’s be a family.

Our website has a system built-in whereby we can use our domain name for our e-mail addresses. The system is simply a forwarding procedure, but it helps us to be a family. To send an e-mail, all you need to do is use the first name and last name’s first initial followed by @ecsssj.org. Then the system forwards your e-mail to the person listed, as long as that person’s e-mail is in the system. To be sure your e-mail is correctly included in the system, send an e-mail to emails@ecsssj.org and accuracies can be verified. You can even include multiple e-mail addresses (in case you have more than one account). And you can include all your children who have e-mail accounts. An example: if you wanted to send a message to Beth Hendrix, you would put BethH@ecsssj.org in the "to" space. For those with the same first name and same last name’s first initial, include the letters of the last name until they are no longer alike. For example, Jim Watts would be JimWat@ecsssj.org while Jim Wallace would be JimWal@ecsssj.org, but Jim Turner is simply JimT@ecsssj.org.

Incidentally, groups can be setup through the website as well. If you have a group you’d like to set up, send the list of names to emails@ecsssj.org.

If you have any questions, please see Sandi Teel.

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES

His Hands Ministry continues to need people to help serve lunch to the homeless and they continue to need sox for the men and women they serve. Please contact Joanne Shepard-Stewart 551-5796 for time and location of weekend lunch service and for more information on this worthy ministry.

Wilmarose Nicholson Davis
November 23, 1931-
June 13, 2008

Our dear Wilmarose. We all are grieving and all are praying for Fr. Charles and the entire family. We pray for our parish in this time of sorrow and loss, and rejoice in the overwhelming and unconditional love that Wilmarose gave to everyone. We love you and will miss you, dear lady!

May light perpetual shine upon her.

Memorials may be made to the Preparing For The Future Capital Campaign, The Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude, 1110 Kinley Road, Irmo, SC 29063.

OUTREACH

Sharing God’s Love has asked local churches to hold individual Food Drives during the summer because donations tend to decline due to vacations, schools being out etc. St.Simon & St.Jude’s Outreach with Vestry approval is setting aside the week of July 13th - 19th to collect groceries, cleaning supplies, and hygiene items. Beginning July 13th, please bring your bagged donations and leave them in the Rite 13 Classroom. On Saturday, July 19th at 9:30 am, Richard Broughton and Mike Gannon will bring their family pick up trucks to church to be loaded for delivery to Sharing God’s Love Office on Friarsgate Blvd. in Irmo.

Assistance loading the trucks will be greatly appreciated if our donations are abundant. This will help Sharing God’s Love make it until their normal giving levels resume in late August and early September.

EVANGELISM
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Evangelism is not just attracting, welcoming and incorporating new members. It’s also sharing our good news with each other. One of the tools we use is regular attendance at Sunday worship.

Sometimes we can’t attend and our parish family misses us. When we don’t see some members of our parish family, we miss them. We keep track of each other informally and we don’t necessarily notice how often someone is not there.

Our parish family would benefit if some of our members would form a group that is responsible for calling people when they aren’t in church for a few Sundays in a row. This is just to make sure that they are healthy and everything is all right. When things are not right members of the committee would let the appropriate Vestry committee know.

Do you feel called to this ministry? Do you have a gift for it? Are you in a position to exercise the gift? If the answer to these questions is "yes", please let Cai Armstrong know.

When she has a list of names, we’ll start a discernment process to see what this group should do and how we should go about it.

Crosswalk Newsletter. Our diocesan newspaper is distributed to more than 12,000 households in Upper South Carolina. It features a regular column by the bishop, local and national church news, and feature stories of interest to Episcopalians. To subscribe to Crosswalk, use the online form. And don't forget to visit Diocesan calendar, the School for Ministry Newsletter and the biweekly electronic newsletter e-DUSC.

Calling All Cooks!
The Pastoral Care Committee needs your help. We’re looking for church members who are willing to prepare a casserole of any size (preferably in a disposable container) that will be stored in the freezer at church and taken to fellow church members in times of illness or bereavement. Please label with your name, date, type of casserole and ingredients (in case of food allergies), and cooking directions. Small amounts to feed 1-2 persons are welcome in addition to larger amounts to feed a family of 3-4 or more. Next time you’re making a casserole (or any dish that would freeze well...it doesn’t have to be fancy!), please consider making an extra portion to share with someone who may be going through a difficult time. Please call Joanne Shepard Stewart (551-5796) if you can help.

EarthDay Network Fall Newsletter

Located at 1110 Kinley Road, IrmoThe Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude is an inclusive, Christ-centered faith community in the Episcopal (Anglican) tradition dedicated to welcoming all who would know the Good News of Jesus Christ, rejoicing in our common journey of faith and living in the real world as Jesus taught us to live. We come from many backgrounds and perspectives but share a common commitment to growing in faith and love of God and neighbor. Read on for more information or contact webmaster@ecsssj.org.

We gather for two regular Sunday services throughout the year centered on Holy Eucharist (or Lord's Supper). The first, at 8:00 am, is quiet and contemplative. The second, at 10:00 am, is a festival celebration with music (organ, choir, hymns, and sung service music).

Children are welcome in all of our worship services. There is also a nursery provided at the 10:00 am service for those parents who wish to use it. Sunday School for all ages is at 11:30 am. There are many other educational offerings and social activities throughout the week (just check our calendar).
