Ministry at St. Simon and St. Jude relies on the gifts and talents of our members. We believe that through Jesus Christ, God has called us all to ministry. There are four primary areas of service.
The Episcopal Church has a long tradition of liturgical worship which inspires us to "do the work we were given to do." Quality worship engages the whole person - body, mind, soul and spirit. Sunday worship is centered around the Holy Eucharist, while weekday worship is more focused on prayer services.
All members are encouraged to participate in the various worship leadership roles, including reading scripture, assisting at communion, singing in the choir, serving as an acolyte, preparing the altar, or playing a musical instrument.
Christian formation is a lifelong process of learning that engages the heart and mind. We try to get people to think about their faith and how God acts in our lives. We offer a variety of learning opportunities for all ages, including Bible studies, book groups, discussion groups, and Sunday school classes.
The Order of the Daughters of the King (DOK) is a spiritual sisterhood of women dedicated to a life of Prayer, Service and Evangelism. We have made a commitment to Jesus as our Savior, and we follow Him as Lord of our lives. We are an Order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, churches in communion with it, or churches in the Historic Episcopate. Today our membership includes women in the Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran (ELCA) and Roman Catholic churches.
We feel we have a responsibility to support one another and the larger community through prayer, encouragement and service. Church volunteers frequently visit those who are unable to travel outside their homes, or those who are recovering from illness or injury. Whether it's an encouraging word or a hot meal, the pastoral care committee seeks to extend the hand of God to those in need.
St. Simon and St. Jude provides ministry to the greater Irmo community. The mission of the outreach program is to "Open our hearts and our doors, taking the message and presence of Christ from the church into the community, and share Christ's message and presence with the community for the entire week." To do this, we try to be actively involved in the spiritual, physical, and emotional wellbeing of members of the community and the church.
Members of our church support a wide variety of outreach ministries throughout the year, including: Epiphany, Prevent Child Abuse, Sharing God's Love, Habitat for Humanity, Kairos, His Hands Ministries, Blood Drives, The Pumpkin Patch, the Homework Center and Home Works.
