Children’s Choirs rehearse on Wednesday afternoons. We will be practicing from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm, so that families may attend the Wednesday evening suppers at 6:00 pm. Some Wednesday evenings there will be a program following supper. At other times, we may have a short evening worship service, along with some music.
We sing for services on an irregular basis, because I try to find music that is appropriate for this age group, but are also appropriate for the day. Tentative schedules are published and amended as necessary throughout the year.
This fall our Cherubs (ages 3 – 6 years) and Angels and Shepherds (grades 1 – 6) are all meeting together. We are learning some songs that teach us about the Bible and some of the things we have learned from the Bible. I am trying to help them understand that the anthems we learn reflect a message from one of the Lessons appointed for the Day or an anthem that reflects on the Season of the Church Year.
We are also learning some very basic Music Theory. Just as these children are learning about numbers and the alphabet, we are talking about symbols used in the language of music. Some of our members are beginning formal instrumental study and we give them an opportunity to share what they have learned.
Jennifer Mudge is our music collaborator. She accompanies for us, but she does much more than that. She is involved in selecting music and helping to teach it. She is an extra set of arms and legs, an extra heart, brain and intellect. She is full of musical talent and she loves the children.
Jennifer and I believe we are teachers more than anything else.
Parents share these very special young lives with us each week. Please pray for Jennifer and me and pray for our children. They are such a special gift!
