Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Carnival

Tuesday, February 16, 6:00 PM

Tuesday, February 16, is the final day before the Lenten fast. This day is variously recalled in the celebration of Carnival (“farewell to meat”) which concluded on “Fat Tuesday” or Mardi Gras, and in pancakes (consuming the eggs, milk and fat that were not allowed during the fasting of Lent). “Shrove” Tuesday refers to the ancient practice of being “shriven” (confessing and receiving absolution) in order to begin and keep a holy Lent.

St. Simon and St. Jude, we celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a Pancake Supper, sponsored by the Men's Club, and a Mardi Gras party (sponsored by the Youth of the church.)  There will be games for the kids, and we will make our traditional alleluia banner and bury it for the 40 days of Lent.  Please plan to join us for a night of food, fun and fellowship.
